Bayden was born at 26 weeks and 3 days due to me having an incompetent cervix. He weighed 2 lbs and 2 oz and was 15 1/4 inches long. A week later they ordered a cranial CT and diagnosed him with a grade 3-4 bleed in his brain. He was still doing so well that they didn't think there was gonna be much damage. Then when he was 2 months old he went into surgery for a Nissen Fundoplication and G-Tube.

Jasmine is the youngest of my four "legal" (vs Foster) kids. She was a 24 week gestation preemie with multiple congenital and acquired medical problems and disabilities. Somehow we, her family, did not see anything except a new baby -though others most certainly did - and let us know it! She was 16 when she died very quickly from a virus. She will always be sorely missed.

She was born at 32-33 weeks gestation, and was born asystolic requiring a 14 minute resuscitation. She was born at a local hospital, but then had to be transported to a trauma unit due to her condition at birth. She was placed in the neonatatal intensive care unit where she remained for almost 1 month. Within this time, she received a gtube and then returned to the NICU.&nb

Nathaniel David Bowman

Nathaniel (Nate) was born March 25, 2003, 5 weeks early. It was an easy and uneventful pregnancy until March 24, when I noticed that I hadn't felt my baby move in the past 24 hours. Labor was induced and Nathaniel David was born just after midnight. He wasn't breathing and was intubated immediately and whisked away to the NICU. Doctors suspected a chromosomal abnormality from the beginning. We spent the next couple of weeks waiting for test results and much to our relief all the chromosome and genetic testing came back normal.

William "Frank" Dowdell

Frank is an active 4 year old who enjoys spending time with his older sister Kathlynn, age 8, and his brother, Stephen, age 5. He love to swing in a hammock swing. He also loves to be around all the animals that we have, including our 9 month old Great Dane Elizabeth. He also loves school.

Xhana Wilson is a happy 9 year-old girl. She lives in Long Island, Bahamas with her parents and her sister.

She has cerebral palsy (Spastic Quadreplegia), Epilepsy and is cortically blind. Until she received her tracheostomy she loved 'swimming' and sunbathing on the beach at Cape Santa Maria in Long Island, Bahamas.

As long as Xhana can feel someone beside her she is fine and happy.

Update: Xhana passed away on Tuesday, December 18, 2007.

My son Adam Dwight Persels was born at 28 weeks gestational age on February 11, 2000. Adam had a hard time breathing even intubated and ventilated. With positioning the tube and lots of drugs he settled in with the occasional scary broncospasm.
