Jaclyn Ruth Key was born on July 7, 1984 to Rita and Jerry Key and their 2 year old daughter. She was a healthy child until she stopped breathing after my mom and dad took me home. It happened so many times, they put an tube down my throat which damaged her right vocal chord from all of the scar tissue and it is now collapsed. She and her mom went up to Cincinnati, Ohio in 1989 just for checkups with her mom and then stepfather Steve Ellis, her mother was pregnant with another little girl.

My name is Wilda Croxton and my daughter is Tabitha Machart Forcier. She was born June 30, 1996. She was a normal healthy little girl. She started getting sick with colds, flues, and pneumonia’s when she was about 1 ½ years old. Her chest started to collapse and with some fighting with doctors, we found one that agreed that there was something we needed to do. So she had her first surgery in October of 1998. They reconstructed her rib cage. We had hope that would be it but she did not get any better, in fact she got worse. She was finally hospitalized in January of 1999 with pneumonia.

Hi my name is Amy, and I have a 15 month old daughter with a trach. She is ventilator dependant, but is starting weaning a little every day. She was born at 32 weeks and weighed 2 lbs. Hailey has Trisomy 9, chronic lung disease, GTube, Bronchomalacia, Tracheomalacia, Hypopitutarism, and apnea. She spent the first 5 1/2 months in the NICU. The doctors told us she wouldn't live to see her first birthday, and she proved them wrong. Hailey is a very happy girl, she hardly ever gets mad. She strives very hard every day to do what should come so easily to a baby, and we are so very proud of her.

Hi My name is Lori Burke. I am writing about my son, Kevin. he is 12 yrs old. He has had his trach since 12/99. He has a very rare syndrome that affects his brain, eyes and muscles. In December, he was diagnosed with Central and obstructive apnea. The trach corrected the obstruction, but Kevin still had some apneic episodes after the trach. His CO2 levels were also abnormally high, so Kevin was put on a vent 24 hrs. a day. After about a month, Kevin used the vent only at night. He does very well- We have a CO2 monitor at home and his levels have normalized.
