Benjamin Orton was born on April 4, 2002 in Laconia, NH. He was born with a lot of problems, the most significant being "severe microcephaly" and "chondrodysplasia punctata". Basically in a nutshell his brain did not develop in utero. Because of Ben's brain, he will never walk, talk or do any of the other things that his brother and sister's can do. He also has hyperthryoidism, seizure disorder, hyper and hypo tonia, is blind and significantly deaf, has g-tube, a fundoplication done and a trach.

Our son, Tyler James Matthew, was born to us on August 2, 2004. He was one week late and was an induced delivery that ended in an emergency c-section. The moment they placed him on my chest, I knew he wasn't breathing deep breaths. He seemed to be struggling...as though he were drowning. They suctioned and suctioned with no relief. For the next 2.5 weeks we spent time in our birth hospitals NICU. The entire time the doctors/nurses tried to diagnose him...forgetting to 'treat' his presenting problem. His breathing. For 17 days he underwent test after test while struggling to breath.

Sierra was born on November 28, 2000. She is my second child, she has an older brother Ryan. We had decided to be induced after we found out that Sierra had Craniosynostosis (where the sutures in her head closed too early). Being induced turned out to be a good thing, we had a team of doctors and nurses ready to take care of Sierra the minute she was born.

Isaac George Wilson

On the 19th February 2003 I gave birth at home to Isaac George Wilson. He came very quickly into the world after a 2-hour labour weighing a hefty 8lb 4oz. Immediately it was clear that he had breathing difficulties. Luckily for me I wasn't wearing my glasses so I couldn't see his frightening blue colour. An ambulance was called and Isaac was whisked to neo natal intensive care where he was ventilated, as he still was unable to breath himself.

Jack Davis Rogers and his brother Dylan were born in Brisbane on the 14th of September 1993. Dylan's membrane had ruptured at 17 weeks gestation and the doctors told me I would loose both babies however I held on for 8 weeks and they were born at 25weeks. Jack weighed 830 grams and Dylan weighed 760 grams. Jack had a brain hemorrhage on Day 1 which has resulted in mild quadriplegic cerebral palsy. On day 7 he had patent duct operation on his heart and remained in ICU for 10 weeks. Dylan unfortunately died on day 20 from multiple pneumothoraxes (holes in his lungs).
