Isaac was born at 31 weeks with esophageal atresia, gap in the esophagus. After numerous unsuccessful attempts to repair his esophagus he developed paralyzed vocal chords, resulting in a trach. He spent 11 of his first 13 months in the ICU, only leaving to stay at the Ronald McDonald House between surgeries. We are home and now that the esophagus is connected we are working with Children's National Medical Center in DC to get Isaac trach free. He will be having reconstructive surgery on his vocal chords in the near future, and will probably require several follow up outpatient procedures. I would love to hear from other families who have followed a similar path!
