TrachKid Profile

Tara was a 26 week micro preemie born on October 1, 2009....among other things I had IUGR that restricted her growth to that of a 21 weeker, she weighed only 15 oz (430 grams) when she was born. She has overcome a great many things, primarily her small size. The nurses and doctors at the NICU didn't believe she would make it but we never gave up hope or our faith that God had a special plan for her. She was diagnosed with Chronic Lung Disease early on and had many trials and tribulations with her lungs. She also had failure to thrive, so that didn't make matters any easier. We realize now how lucky we were that her main, and really only, problem was her lungs. She dodged a lot of bullets during her stay in the NICU and for that we are forever greatful. In January, Tara developed pulmonary hypertention, due to elevated Co2 levels while  on CPAP. She became very ill and required Nitric Oxide for around 6 weeks. On March 1, her 5  month birthday, she had surgery to place her trach and g-button. She came through beautifully and healed up fast; she did battle sepsis right after surgery, but like everything else, she pulled through it quickly. She finally came home on April 27th, a few days shy of her 7 month birthday. We are loving life now that she is finally home and she is progressing by leaps and bounds, both developmentally and pulmonary wise.
