TrachKid Profile

I was diagnosed with Failure to Thrive, which required my mom to be induced on 12/9/09. Her labor failed to progress and I was born full term on 12/11/09 via a C-section. I swallowed some meconium while in my mom’s tummy, but doctors were able to suction it out before it went to my lungs and it caused no problems afterward. I did suffer from Jaundice after being born and required light treatment for this.
I spent the first 4 and half months of my life in the NICU at Johns Hopkins Hospital. While there I had many surgeries that are listed below. I was discharged from the hospital on 4/21/10.
I have several congenital abnormalities including spinia bifidia, hydrocephalus, Chiari II malformation, a suspected absence of the corpus callosum, tetrasomy 18p & bilateral club feet. I had to have a shunt placed & a revision on it within a week. I was in casts for about 6 weeks, required a surgery, wear corrective shoes & may require additional to correct my feet. I also have obstructive apnea that was first treated with a lip-tongue adhesion & required a tracheostomy be placed. I had severe reflux that required a G-tube & Nissen fundoplication. I have very low muscle tone in my throat & am not protecting my airway so I am aspirating on my own secretions. I do not feed by mouth. I also have Strabismus, specifically congenital esotropia. I will probably need surgery when I am 1 to completely correct this problem.
