Mya was born with Down syndrome. Shortly after birth I noticed that she was not breathing right. After weeks of calling her doctor, she was finally sent to a pulmonolist. He then did a sleep study, and there was diagnosed with obstructed sleep apnea. Several days later she had to be admitted to the PICU. The ENT said that the epiglottis was collapsing and blocking her airway. So at 4 weeks old she got her trach. We have had a lot of problems with that. Infections, not wanting to eat. She is so precious, and loves to be talked to, and play, but she just doesn't want to eat. She is now 4 months old, and weighs 10lbs 12oz.

Hi,
My name is Kathy , i am grandmother to Kaylie who also has a trach and Down snydrome, she is 4 and half years old and the joy of my life, she is my world forsure. if you ever want to talk please send me a message. also there is a great trach board that many of us with trachs post on, i dont know if you are aware of it or not, but its great, everyone is just wonderful. hope all is well and things are coming along,

Hi,

My name is Alicia. I have an eight year old little boy with Down syndrome, who also had a trach. He was trached for about a year. He also wouldn't eat. Just wanted to encourage you and let you know that all things happen in time.... In your case, it will be in Mya's time! It's all good.

I still find myself coming back to this website every now and then, just to "check in"!

Hang in there. I'm sure you've noticed your one of the lucky familys now!

By the way, Mya is adorable!
