Sam was admitted to PICU due to aspiration pneumonia. She was placed on a ventilator and after a few days they tried to extabate her. This failed. They tried two more times and it failed each time. The doctors decided that she needed to have a tracheostomy. This was done on April 6. Sam was almost 5 months old. She has had no breathing problems since the trach. A few weeks after the trach, she had a few stomach surgeries because they found out her stomach was extremely delayed when emptying causing her to have severe reflux. Since her stomach issues have been corrected, we are hoping that we will be able to have the trach removed.
