Marlo

TrachKid Profile

Marlo was born via c-section after being in labor for 9 hours.  I had a high fever, and her heart rate was dropping.  I was put on bed rest in the hospital for 2 months prior to her being born.  Yeah 2 months of nothing but bed rest no leaving the hospital room nothing.  Marlo was born Feb 18,2009  with breathing problems.  The Dr's said she had a stridor yeah and it should correct itself in a couple of days.  Marlo was placed in the ICU.  After 1 week in the ICU they finally decided to call an ENT from Childrens Hosp.  The Dr. came scoped Marlo, and within min said she would need a Trach because her vocal cords are paralyzed. Talk about devestated.  Marlo was transported to Childrens hospital and was Trached.  After spending 2 1/2 months at Childrens Hospital, getting trained on how to take care of a Trach baby, Nursing care in place, we where finally on our way home.  Marlo was scoped when she was 6 months old and she had 70% percent of vocal cord movement.  She started talking around her Trach and soon after started using her speaking valve.  Marlo now uses her speaking valve she loves it and is on it up to 8 hours a day.  We have an appointment for April 27th 2010 I keep praying that she has 100% percent movement and we can work on getting rid of her Trach oh yeah and her G-Tube.  I am happy to say that having a Trach kid is not that bad really its not.
