Gabriel is a very active and happy 14 month old. He has had his shunt since his 3rd day of life, g-tube at 1 month of age, trach and fundo at 7 months old and put on a ventilator at 8 months. He spent 3 months in the NICU and was hospitalized multiple times from Aug 07 - Jan 08, within in this time frame he also had 4 shunt revisions. Finally on Jan. 2 Gabriel got to come home and has been home since! In Jan. of 2008 he had surgery to correct his CVI (cortical visual impairment) and in March 2008 he had surgery to remove a cyst on the left side of his tongue. Gabriel has 3 older loving brothers who adore him as well. Although he is developmental delayed he is learning how to crawl, is tolerating tummy time more and working on head/trunk support. Despite his medical condition and all the wires from the machines he is very active and keeps myself and nurses on our feet 24/7. He has some sensory processing issues that we are working at this time. He loves to be held and touched and craves that constant rocking, swinging back and forth stimulation. Gabriel has a very loveable personality and a beautiful smile, he is a little fighter! Despite his conditions we thrive on each other's strength to keep going day by day and make the most of our time together.
