Yes, its me!! -- Aaron's mom and administrator of the TrachKids site. I had a tracheostomy because of a tracheal tumor and post-op complications.
Aaron and I had our tracheostomy surgeries at the same hospital, but 35 years apart. Our tracheostomies were done for different reasons, but still an unusual coincidence. My mother needed very little training to baby-sit for Aaron, just a little refresher course!
When we were waiting for Aaron to go into the operating room for his tracheostomy, Aaron's surgeon noticed my trach scar and asked me if I had had a trach. I said yes, and that my trach was also done at Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary. He ask me who my surgeon was.
Growing up, I remember my mother telling me many times that, "Doctor Montgomery saved your life." But, I figured that he must be retired if he was even still living. As it turned out, "Old Mo" was still practicing! So, I got a chance to meet him and thank him for saving my life. Dr. Montgomery passed away in 2003.
