Caden was born in May of 2002 in Medina, OH. He was diagnosed with Complete Tracheal Rings and was intubated at 1 day old. He was ultimately trached at 3 months old and remained ventilator dependent for 3 1/2 years. He spent the first 14 months of his life in 5 different hospitals, (4 in Ohio; Medina, Akron, Columbus, and Cleveland and 1 in Chicago, IL). We ultimately made Cincinnati Children's our "home". He was decannulated in August of 2007! He has had bronchial stents placed and removed, and has remained fairly stable. He will, however, need a 2nd slide tracheoplasty to make his 3.5 mm trachea bigger. We now live in central OH and he is in the 1st grade. He is completely stubborn and ornery.. which is ok by us (sometimes). He loves to run and play- but does get winded easily. He has a little sister, Mazlyn who will soon be 4, that is bigger than him- and he hates it. He also has a baby brother, Logan, who is 2 and has Down Syndrome- and also faces some difficulties with breathing... but definitely not as severe as Caden.
We wish to thank all the doctors and nurses in Medina General Hospital, Akron Children's Hospital, Nationwide Children's Hospital, Cleveland Clinic Foundation, and especially Chicago's Children's Memorial Hospital and Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center for saving Caden!
