Hi everyone! Thanks for visiting Bradley's webpage! We hope Brad's story can offer anyone struggling with this syndrome comfort and support. Opitz G/BBB Syndrome is a very rare syndrome, but you are not alone. If you wish to contact me,you can e-mail me at HeatherLeigh321@aol.com or add me on Facebook!
I could honestly write a whole book on my journey so far as a young, single, mother to a child with special needs! I will try to keep it as short as possible and just stick to his medical history. Bradley was born on February 6th 2009 at 34 weeks gestation! He was born with a bilateral cleft lip and palate, cleft larynx, hypoplastic of the corpus collosum, his skull had not fused together completley, and he was also born hypothyroid. This may sound like alot for a newborn preemie to take on,but Brad is the most resilient little boy and always wears a smile on his face! He was diagnosed with Opitz at 4 months old and has since then proved that by no means, will his syndrome slow him down! He has had 9 procedures performed in 6 surgeries. He had a tracheostomy at 6 months and has had it a little over a year now. He wears a passey muir valve and likes to talk-alot! On September 1st 2010 his doctor attempted to decannulate, but it was not successful. His doctor will try again in March 2011 and were hoping the second time is a charm!
Hi everyone! Bradley is doing great! In May,he underwent a surgical procedure called a Laryngotracheoplasty(LTP). Scar tissue that was blocking his airway was removed and a peice of cartlidge from his ear took its place. His doctor had hopes that after the procedure Brad would be decannulated, however when a decan. was attempted,Brad had a hard time coordinating crying and breathing. His doctor's conclusion was that his airway muscles are still not strong enough to coordinate everything yet and that he needs the trach a little longer until those muscles are strong and he isnt having such a hard time. Our next follow up appointment is in January 2012. Thanks for stopping by!
