Bianca Harris is a 27 week preemie twin with Treacher Collins Syndrome born 1-7-03. She has a tracheostomy because she has micrognathia and choanal atresia. She also has conductive hearing loss.
Bianca wears hearing aids. She also has a mickey button for feedings and has had a fundoplication.
Bianca is scheduled for jaw distraction and corrective surgery for her choanal atresia Oct. 22nd. We hope to decannulate by the end of the year.
Update, December 2003: Best Holiday Present EVER!! Bianca has been decannulated....which means NO MORE TRACH.
Update, August 2004 - Bianca had her big surgery June 22nd. She has new cheekbones (from bone from her skull) and had her 1st corrective eye surgery. Here are two photos of Bianca, one from before, one from after her surgery, I think you'll be able to tell which is which!
Bianca came through the surgery just great, she'd a really resilient little girl. Dr Cohen, her surgeon says the procedures could not have gone better. We had our follow up visit and there is the possibility of another small procedure in a few months, we'll see. Regardless, we are pleased with the improvement of the appearance of her cheeks and eyes.
Update, May 2005: Bianca died very suddenly 2/12/05. Her death was completely unexpected, she was not sick that we new of. Thanks for all your help over the past two years. Aaron's page is invaluable, I've recommended it to others. I would also like to thank all those that read about her on your page and contacted us.
Update July 2010: Bianca's twin, Melena, gained a new sister 2/2007, Gilianna. We talk about Bianca all the time and stay in touch with other children with Treacher Collins Syndrome. We've started an endeavor called Hearbands. Our Hearbands are for kids wearing Bone Conduction hearing aids. So Bianca is continuing to touch people all the time. Her sisters help pick out the fabrics, buttons and bows. They ask about the kids that wear them. We help other children and parents, and in this way she continues.
