Hello Everyone! My daughter is going in for a sleep study in June and I'm wondering if anyone has any information on what it's like and will we be able to stay with her through the whole thing? Any help is much appreciated.
Thanks! MaryJane Kate's Mom.

often the kiddos will have what is called a plug put on their trach and they are monitiored continuously through the night and video taped. The monitoring is extensive and tells them all about your child from repiratory to cardiac. good luck and keep us posted tkdeso
sleep study

Sleep study....we have had 4...will have our 5th on June 4th. :(
You "should" be able to stay with your child...our hospital actually requires a parent to stay with their child if they are under 16. Your child will be hooked up to multiple wires (head, chest, and a pulse ox)...it's painless for the child. You probably won't see any of the monitors (ours monitors it in a seperate room) which makes it nice for you to sleep (but don't plan on sleeping too much as staff is in and out of the room ALOT, I think the last study I went with Micah to I slept for 30 minutes at a time all night long). If you have questions please let me know as I might be able to share alot of info.
Good luck!

Hello Melinda - My
Hello Melinda - My daughter's sleep study was pushed out to June 4th now (same as your 5th!). I am staying the full night with her in the room and since she has a feeding tube as well, I will be the one making sure she gets her night feedings, changes her diapers, etc... I'm a bit scared, but I'm very hopeful that this will be a successful test. I think she's ready for her trach to be out. Why I'm wondering is how do they plug the trach, when do they do it and when do they take it back out? I've been told to be there from 7:30p to 7:30a, so just 24 hours and I'm thinking that her trach will be plugged until she wakes up the following morning - is that right? This is the part I'm a bit confused on because what if we are unable to get through the whole night? (just in case heaven forbid that anything do go wrong).
Thanks! Wendy
how did it go?
Wendy...curious as to how your sleep study went? I hope went well...sorry i am just now responding but it's been a crazy few weeks!
re: How did it go?
Daughter's sleep study went extremely well! I was totally nervous but the nurses there (and my night nurse) made it a very nice experience. She fell asleep around 9:30p (normal) and then at 10a the nurse came in and hooked her up and capped her trach. Every hour up to 2am they came in trying to put that CO2 nose thing on, but she was not having it! She actually slept through majority of the night except for the times they came in to wake her up for the CO2 - so that's about 9 hours with the trach capped! My night nurse was able to get to the sat levels - which were 100%!!! So there was no need for her to even have the CO2 :-) Now the next step is to see the DR for follow up on June 22nd and see what comes next....hopefully trach will come out soon now that I know she can breath just fine without it! Thanks for all your kind thoughts!
Update on Sleep Study results
My daughter's sleep study results were a bit different than what I had anticipated. Good news is that she was breathing just room air with good high sat levels, the bad news is that she had shallow breathing all night and the DR says that her airway just needs more time to get bigger. SO - he says another 4 months to schedule 2nd sleep study, then hopefully by Xmas = we'll get a nice surprise. So I'm crossing my fingers!
hi
hi my name is nellie , my sons name is alexander. well i dont know if its the same kind of sleep study as the one my son had. we did it last night. its a little oxymeter and we hooked up his regular monitor too. well the dr, ordered it because he wants my son to come off the vent. well he did great his o2 stayed above 90 and his ♥ rate stayed above 70 so he did great, the dr his going to look over the results and he will later let us know the next step. my son has trachobronchol malacia and subglottic stenosis. he has a 3.5 uncuffed trach and he is leaning how to talk with his passy muir valve. i hope everything goes well. good luck
