Nissen
My Maisy just had a nissen on Sept 29 and is doing really well. We have other kids who have nissens and it has been great for them. I helped them so much!
Nissen fundoplication
Hi my daughter Karissas had her nissen surgery at 5months of age she is now 2yrs 3months old really only 23 months old but her nissen may have come undone but her surgeons dont feel she needs to have it done again due to she is on prevacid and bethanacol for her reflux . But when her nissen was intact it was great. She still refluxes from time to time but not as bad as she did when she was younger
Nissen fundoplication
HI...I'm new at this but I can answer your question:
The top of the stomach is called the fundus. The esophagus is the tube that goes from the top of the stomach (fundus) to the mouth. The surgeon brings the fundus up over the end of the esophagus and stitches to tighten it - kind of like pulling a drawstring tight.
It is called a Nissen after the dr. who perfected the surgery I think. It is to help keep the stomach contents in the stomach...decreasing or eliminating reflux.
Hope that helps,
Nancy
