Baby Alexander has been a very strong baby, He was born on December 16, 2008 At 5:05 pm weighting 7lb 10oz. It was the 2 happiest day of our lives because its our second baby, well it all starded when he was 2 weeks old. He caught a cold, i took him to the pediatrition And she gave him Benadryl and Xopenex. I still keep in mind was it wright to give him benedryl at 2 weeks old? Well any how an hour later that i had given the benedryl my son stoped breathing. We rushed to the ER and they said they thought he had an overdose of benedryl and also trachomalacia. But I still dont know what happend because the Benedryl was prescribed by the PD. Any way after being intubaded for 1 and aN 1/2 weeks with 3 attemps of being extubaded we went home at 2 weeks from being in the hospital. 4 days later we were back and admitted to the PICU were the found out he had Subglottic Stynosis, he went in for sugery on 1-24-08 to have some scare tissue removed. after a week we got to go home. He was doing great at home for a month until I caught a could then he starded having all of that breathing fast retracting crying all of that so i desided to bring him to the ER, After the 3 time of bringing him to the ER they finally listen to me that my son was really having a hard time to breath it turns out he had RSV. And its so sad that many children and parents dont get the medical attention they really need ant the time they are there! Any how mas son got to the point he got tired ane they put him on VAPOTHERM "GUESS WHAT IT WAS TO LATE MY SON HAD TO BE INTUBADED FOR 5TH TIME!!" this happend on 3-16-08. So on april 1-08 they did a broncoscopy and they saw the trachomalacia & subglotic stynosis. He was so swollen that they could not even see his vocal cords or voice box. So they ended up putting in they Trach on 4-6-08. It was really sad when i got to see my son, But now i got the chance to meet a baby with a trach and its all the same as if he never has had one. AND YOU KNOW WHAT KEEPS ME STRONGER THAT EVEN THOUGH MY SON JUST HAD SURGERY HE STILL LOOKS AT ME AND SMILES! LIKE SAYING I LOVE YOU MOMMY AND THANK YOU FOR BEEING HERE WITH ME!!

Hi
Hi, Brooklyn's Mom here...how's it going? Brooklyn has been home since July 23rd 2008. She spent 16 months in the hospital. She is so happy. But I wish she didn't need a machine to breathe. ugh! Some days I am just not in the mood for the circuit. She walks and thinks she can just keep walking, like she is not attached to a vent! It's hard sometimes, but I am thankful for our blessings!
Take Care!
Hi Nellie, I am the mother
Hi Nellie, I am the mother of Alaya. Alaya has been home since Jan.27th 2009. Caring for a child with a Trach is a huge responsibility. In my case I have to deal with her secretions and making sure to suction her so that she doesn't get mucus plugs that prevent her from breathing. But I will say this...Alaya is so well behaved during her Trach care as far as changing the ties daily, and changing the Trach weekly. It helps that she doesn't fight. However now that she getting older and stronger, she pulls on it quite a bit. Hopefully the hospital will give you extensive training and make sure that you are comfortable in your ablilty to care for her at home. You will do just fine. It really isn't as bad as it wiil seem at first. You will grow into a routine and it will all be second nature in a couple of weeks. Good luck and God Bless!!
