December 2009

Dominique continues to do very well.  She is not gaining weight or growing as she should do to her labored breathing but we are hopeful she will start to catch up.  She needs to take in 3800 calories a day to help gain weight.  She is now in Middle School and doing well.  She enjoys going to school and is the only child I know that enjoys doing homework.  She still plays the clarinet in the school band.

She has had a few surgeries this year to dialilate her esophagus.  She had a few episodes where her food got stuck in her throat.  This will be an ongoing thing for her.

She continues to wear her brace at night to help straighten out her spine.  This is a bit hard to do because the brace has to be tight and if it is too tight she will have reflux episodes.  Always have to monitor what she eats late at night so this does not happen.

We have her on a new nasal medication to help with all the mucus she produces and daily nebs to help with her breathing.  This is all maintenance for the winter and she seems to be breathing much better over the last 8 weeks since starting this.
We hope that she will start to catch up in growth to the other kids turning 13.  Wow can't believe she will be a teenager in a few months...  I would still not change a thing about my little miracle.  I thank God every day for bringing this special gift into our lives.

WOW!

When I read your 12/09 note I went back to read the remarkable history of your beautiful girl. WOW!!!
Somehow the fact that she plays the clarinet struck me as such a testiment to her ability to be "normal". Lots of hope for many parents.
Congratulations!
